MBA ABROAD
The different types of MBA program in Abroad are as follows:-
Two-year, Full time MBA
Two-year programs are usually four semesters, spread over two academic years, with a three- or four-month break for an internship. The first year includes core courses required of all MBAs.The second year allows for functional specialization (a specific concentration of study and elective courses).
* Students do not work full time during the program; school is considered their first priority.
* People often relocate to attend their full-time program of choice.
One-year, Full time MBA
One-year programs are dramatically different from their two-year counterparts. They usually have very strict prerequisites for either work background or academic training.
Program length is typically 11 to 16 months.
The program is shortened by:
* Reducing the time in core classes, or
* Limiting opportunities to specialize
In addition:
* Students do not work full-time; school is considered the first priority.
* Relocation may be required to attend a one-year program that meets your specific needs.
Part-Time MBA programs
Part-time MBA programs are designed for working professionals. Most part-time MBAs work full-time during the day and attend classes in the evening. Some schools offer both a full-time and a part-time program.
Here are some considerations when exploring part-time programs:-
* Courses are scheduled year 'round and do not allow for internships.
* Some part-time programs offer the same ability to specialize (through concentrations and open electives) as full-time programs, but others only offer a limited number of concentrations.
* Some part-time programs require fewer courses than their full-time counterparts. Their curriculum usually includes a core body of knowledge and does not offer the ability to specialize.
* Some part-time programs require the same number of courses as a full-time program, but spread out over a longer time. For example, you might take one to two courses at a time over four or five years for a degree requiring 20 courses.
Executive MBA programs
Executive MBA (E-MBA) programs are geared toward enhancing the careers of working executives, many of whom are company sponsored. These programs are for professionals who are already specialists in a field or industry and need to hone their general management skills to continue up the corporate ladder.
* Enrollment is often tied to a new or anticipated promotion.
* Students' professional experience and expertise become part of the fabric of the curriculum.
* Classes typically meet on Fridays and Saturdays, usually on alternate weekends, over two academic years.
* E-MBA programs offer full immersion, with learning outside the classroom and extensive faculty and student/team interaction.
E-MBA Programs Differ from Full-Time Programs
Because they are fully employed, E-MBA students do not hold internships between their first and second years of school.
University scholarships are generally not available for E-MBA students, but loan programs such as the Graduate Management Admission Council's MBA LOANS are available.
There is limited or no opportunity to specialize. Students all take the same general management curriculum at the same time, rather than core courses one year and electives the next.
Executive MBA Advantages
E-MBA programs have several advantages for executives who need career-broadening management training:
* They feature a well-constructed curriculum of several courses in each of the major business disciplines.
* They usually do not require permanent relocation, making them good for those who can travel virtually anywhere on a regular basis.
* E-MBAs earn their degree in two years or less, faster than their part-time counterparts.
PROCEDURE FOR APPLYING INTO AN MBA PROGRAM ABROAD ALWAYS VARY AND SO DOES THE TERMINOLOGY. WE WILL HELP YOU THROUGH THE ENTIRE PROCESS FOR YOUR ADMISSION.
These are some of the important tips for applying an MBA program Abroad:
Article content:
The application form
The resume or CV
The Essay
Letters of recommendation
Transcripts
The tests
The interview
Funding and scholarships
The Application Form
Your form should be clear, complete and neat. When read quickly by someone who does not know you it should give a clear picture of you.
· Spend sufficient time - do the job properly. This is the first hurdle - most people fall here.
· Photocopy the blank form several times and fill out several drafts before you fill out the copy to submit. Get someone to look at your drafts - preferably someone who doesn't know you too well and who can therefore see the document as an Admissions person in the School might see it.
· When you are applying to a School in another country - remember that you might not get an interview - so the application documents are particularly important.
· If the application form refers to Interviews - and you are in another country - offer to be interviewed by telephone and/or by a local alumnus of the School.
The Resume, or CV
If a separate personal resume or CV is required, it should-
· Be concise and neat (not hand written).
· Present you - as a person - clearly, to someone who does not know you.
· Be specific - saying what you have done, learnt and accomplished.
· Show evidence of your managerial and leadership skills.
· Show evidence that you are a good 'group worker' - most programs will need you to work in this way.
· Highlight specific skills and abilities that will differentiate you from others - and make you stand out from the crowd.
· Include some things, which might become topics in an interview.
· Remember - spend time on your resume, and make it show - the School will want to see that you are taking them seriously.
The Essay
If it is about you - it should do all the things, which are listed above for the Resume - but it is also a test of your writing ability, so it should also-
· Be well structured and logical (check spelling and syntax. Get someone to read it before you use it).
· Present your strengths - but recognize your weaknesses, and say how doing the program is intended to address them.
· Indicate what you would bring to the program - i.e. how you would be an asset to it, and subsequently to the School as an alumnus.
· Express your views and opinions.
· Address all the specific topics requested or suggested by the School - make a check-list and make sure you cover all items, preferably in the order the School presented them in any notes for guidance.
· Follow the School's requirements as regards line spacing, margins etc - and especially any word limit.
· Don’t use 'mass produced' or 'off the peg' essays.
Letters of Recommendation/References
Take care to pick the right people to comment about you-
· Choose people who know you and who like you.
· Choose people in business or education, i.e. with job titles, which will be recognized by the School.
· Ask them before and thank them afterwards (preferably when you have the result of the application).
· Brief them - but don’t tell them what to write - speak to or meet with them, give them a copy of your completed application form, CV etc.
· Tell them their input is important and not just a formality.
· Choose people who have, and will give, the time to do a good job - i.e. not just tick the boxes and write no comments.
